I might just be wrong on this, but I think daylight savings are more a recent thing (last 100 years is recent) and not really a tradition.
I could be that I come from a country that are more than 250 years old too and we have a different view of what traditions are

I've never heard of PDT and EDT ever ever.. never heard of it and I live in EST area. I thought it was a typo when I noticed it on the GuildWars site when listing the times/dates of how things will work the next few days.
PST and EST is what I've always used and will always use. This might be a new official way to give a distinction between the two time shifts because not every place in the word shifts time like North America.

If you are at all interested check this link:

Has some interesting info on it. DST is mostly used to save energy it seems (something I did not know).

If Arenanet would just read this thread I'm sure they would open the servers early - a debate about what time it is pretty much takes the cake IMO

Exactly 12:01 am PST (Pacific Time) for those who have preorders.
For the rest, it will be 24 hours later.

I have a feeling (call it old fart intuition) that there may be plesant surprises for the loyal participants when the gates open. I only say this because of how each beta session has ended, and that the development team has the ability to make us smile at will.
